Radio Erena, a Paris-based satellite radio station that broadcasts to Eritreans in Eritrea and to the Eritrean diaspora, is again the target of a pirate transmission from within Eritrea that is blocking its broadcasts - this time since 4 September.

The Eritrean Consulate in The Hague has been extorting money from Eritreans in the Netherlands for almost twenty years. A report in Dutch daily De Volkskant claims people are being forced to hand over two percent of their monthly income to support the regime of President Issayas Afewerki.

Medenine — The Zarzis office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has taken care of the Eritrean survivor rescued last week off the coasts of Zarzis while trying to reach Italy on board a rubber boat from Libya together with some 50 Africans who all died of hunger and thirst.

The UNHCR office has rented on Thursday a house in Zarzis to accommodate the Eritrean survivor who left the regional hospital pending the study of his asylum request.

He has not been taken to Shucha Refugees Camp in Ben Guerdane because conditions are not appropriate for him there.
